Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis (FBCA) Testing
What is Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis?
Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis (FBCA) is a powerful tool that we use to assess our client’s health, identify dysfunction, and develop plans to bring the body back to optimal ranges. Conventional medicine uses blood chemistry as a diagnostic tool only to determine the presence or absence of disease. When analyzed from a functional perspective, blood chemistry analysis can prevent the evolution of dysfunction into disease.
What Makes The Functional Approach To Blood Chemistry Analysis Different?
Approaching blood chemistry from a functional perspective allows for the identification of dysfunctions in the body before they become diseases. Unlike conventional lab ranges, which are based on lab reference ranges associated with disease thresholds, the functional perspective looks at ranges associated with optimal health. This allows earlier interventions to avoid negative health outcomes. In this sense, the functional approach is more patient-focused because it starts with concerns and then works towards treating them. You get answers that you aren’t finding in your primary care physician’s office.
“Normal” Isn’t The Same As Optimal
Conventional blood chemistry analysis relies on lab reference ranges that are calculated based on average values found within a sample population. “Normal” is 95% of the referenced sample, with only the results that fall outside the upper and lower 2.5% considered abnormal. They are statistical averages and not true markers of actual health. This is why you end up feeling crummy, but your doctor still tells you your labs look “normal.” The functional ranges for blood chemistry are correlated with real health outcomes. We also can track progress towards those optimal health ranges.
How We Use Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis To Improve Your Health
We use the results to build a holistic, comprehensive picture of your health and tailor recommendations to address any identified dysfunctions at the root cause. Ideally this helps prevent disease from occurring in the first place and helps prevent further states of dysfunction in the body. We recommend supplements and lifestyle changes, and if needed refer you to a medical provider for medications. We like to test over time, to make sure things are trending in the right direction and the recommendations are making an impact.
